Greetings Adventurers!

I want to start with you a special feature called #fridayplot2024. Every Friday I will share plots of any kind for any one-shots or campaigns to tickle your imagination as roleplayers. The plots will be of various kinds, of all types, and not specific to any particular system :). Where I can, I will also put pictures/maps there. I hope this initiative will whet your appetite to play and create ever changing stories as well as an invitation for you to share your ideas too! I think a good thing will come out over time!

Powders & Blood

A team of engineers was sent to a mining drilling station called Nova Base on a rocky planet named Erebus in the Kepler-438 solar system. Since the signal has been lost for more than 48h the Galactic Infrastructure Management (G.I.M.) decided to send a team to check it out.

Erebus is small, completely rocky and cold planet where water with a high level of acidity flows, which has become a mining outpost. At the richest spot, a mining drilling station was set up, which over time created a large and deep hole within the planet itself. When they realized that they could not dig any more they began to enlarge the mines in length and not in depth. Deprived of oxygen, it is necessary to use appropriate respirators. Of the rest, the planet is devoid of life; small microorganisms and fossilized plants were found during excavations inside the rocks. Rare and valuable elements such as lithium, gold, platinum and palladium are extracted from the planet, which are in high demand for the production of advanced electronic devices, batteries and corrosion-resistant materials. Fine dust makes the planet dimly lit.

Starting from outside the Great Forum to a few kilometers to the south, various types of facilities have been installed and placed.These include living quarters, storage facilities, oxygen generators for the suits, supply storage, and laboratories to analyze the material being mined from the planet.The name of the present facility is Nova Base and it is one of the most important facilities in that solar system.

Preparation for the session

The group of engineers is formed by the number of participants in the session. I thought, to make the session more interesting and personal, to choose together with the GM the roles of each participant. Basically all Engineers so they have the same skills but can choose a specialization inherent to the setting. For examples:

The Objective

Since 48h (according to the GIM Main Ship time scale) signal has been lost from Nova Base. No more data, images, audio are received from the various zones. The refining zone has gone into self-protective standby so machinery is on but not operational. There is no longer a signal from the extraction zone and malfunctioning automatic doors have been revealed. Richard explains to the players that there may be a toxic gas leak inside the large shaft and that this could be the cause of the malfunction of the security system. Players must then descend inside the well to investigate and fix the problem. According to the latest support request received from Nova Base, Dr. Helen Graband is the contact name for the field team. Communication closed, the crew is ready to prepare with the proper equipment.
